Rhodium is one of three metals from the platinum group (PGM) used for jewelry. It is the most expensive metal of this group and is the best in resistance to corrosion and tarnish under most environmental conditions. It is durable, hard, and highly reflective.
Rhodium is also hypo-allergenic. Rhodium protective coating is useful for sterling silver and white gold (which often contain nickel) to give them a white sheen look. It is well known that nickel is not bio-compatible and approximately 15% of people suffer from some kind of nickel allergy. Thus, rhodium serves as an additional layer between skin and the base metal preventing skin irritation.
Our jewelry is overlaid with 2.5 to 3.0 microns of either rhodium (silver colored) or gold. All of our 925 Sterling jewelry is coated with Rhodium to enhance it's beauty and healthy qualities. If the item number starts with 9R, then it is sterling silver.
